I feel myself torn. On the one hand, there is what seems to be a growing division between people – even people of the same faith. Political divisions are open and virulent. Theological differences have become bait for power struggles. And the legacy of the European culture, of which I’m a part, is racial and sectarian division, entrenched poverty, and widespread cynicism. On the other hand, what seems to be a landscape of increased chaos may simply be a reaction to humanity’s nearing a tipping point in our history. The dream of a oneness of peoples may well be closer than it’s ever been, but our vision is obscured by the vindictive language, disregard for integrity, and an almost tribal exclusivity.
I believe we are at a point in the life of human beings that we must choose what we see going on. It could go either way. I choose to believe we are near a tipping point – a significant time of re-orientation and the dawning of a new paradigm of mutual respect and a deepening sense of community. Perhaps my belief will be the tipping point. Perhaps your will be. And even if they’re not, I have reached a tipping point in my life and place my faith in our oneness.
I invite your comments and your questions.
